Easter Promo Session Thwarted by Big Piece of Paper and Chalk | Kitchener/Waterloo Childrens' Photographer

Monday, February 20, 2012

Our afternoon yesterday ended up turning into such a lovely photo session for the girls and their friends (and was a great reminder of the importance of allowing things to happen organically :).  Who knew a huge piece of seamless paper and sidewalk chalk would be such a hit?

Mom and Dad (surrounded by lots of hearts and love ;).

I love this shot.  You would never have know she was leaning up against a piece of paper.

Such a sweet portrait of my youngest, green chin and all :).

Such a serious little artist's face ;).

The final masterpiece!  I'm definitely thinking this is going to become *the* craft whenever the girls are bored.

Chocolate Donuts with Blood Orange Glaze | Kitchener/Waterloo Food Photographer

Friday, February 17, 2012

I love Pinterest and it's led me to an amazing recipe for chocolate donuts with blood orange glaze (thanks Steph ;).  This is my first time making donuts so please bear with the images included in this post!  I think it might take a few tries to nail the glaze - and I think I might try to find a better chocolate donut recipe - but they really did turn out to be quite delicious and are super easy too!  The recipe I followed can be found here at Heather Christo Cooks.

And these...these are a little treat straight from Martha Stewart's Cupcake cookbook!  Well, the chocolate mini-muffin recipe isn't (a'thank you Duncan Hines), but the spun sugary topping is!

I'll have to admit, I completely bombed it's creation and thought I had followed the recipe to a "T" but was pretty unimpressed with the results (as I'm sure Martha herself would be with my attempt).  I'm taking it up as a personal challenge though and will try again tonight to make her gorgeous spun sugar.

Still, I think I ended up with a pretty nifty-looking cupcake topper!

Once I perfect these recipes I will certainly create a new post with some better images!  Will keep you posted and enjoy your weekend :).

Kiss-N-Makeup Video Shoot | Kitchener/Waterloo Commercial Photographer

Monday, February 13, 2012

The lass above happens to be Novella's fabulous, exclusive makeup artist Stephanie Brown, owner of the always faboosh Kiss-N-Makeup!  This past weekend I was fortunate enough to help her with a video-promo of her business and snapped up a few *behind-the-scenes* shots of her day.

My equally awesome brother Brennan was on hand offering his videography expertise (and a case of birthday Stella for my husband ;).

By the way, Stephanie's tights can be found at - a gorgeous, vintage-inspired clothing site, and where I buy ALL of my dresses.

*On set* in Novella's studio, here in Kitchener.

Stephanie gathers a huge amount of inspiration from the colours around her, which makes her an amazing help when styling a session for Novella.

Stephanie's gorgeous model is hairstylist Martha from Michaels: The Salon, in Brantford.

And another screen capture on Brennan's Canon.  I've been lucky enough to view a small compilation of the video he's shot so far and it's just incredible!

Oh, and loving how the colour from Stephanie's lip gloss totally matches the camera's screws.

I am IN LOVE with this palette from MAC.  I would seriously try to figure out a way to wear each colour at one time on my eyelids...

Weekends are busy here at Novella and I'm so happy I could share with you some of the images I took from our creative, promo session.  While you're here, definitely check out Stephanie's Kiss-N-Makeup on facebook.  She's just amazing to have by my side while shooting and is such a wonderful artist.

Accordion Photobooks | 3x3 | Print & End-Product Perks

Friday, February 10, 2012

I think the excitement of receiving something in the mail that I've designed will never wear off - and I'm hoping it's the exact same excitement my Couples have when they receive a post-session album or print order from Novella!

These little gems arrived only yesterday afternoon (after a lab turn-around-time of approximately 1 week) and I was amazed, once again, with how wonderful this particular end-product turned out.  I shouldn't say *amazed.*  I know the products I design and have created are not only handcrafted items, and that the quality is a lovely mix of heirloom and fine art, but I'm almost never prepared for exactly how great they turn out.

The following images showcase Novella's 3x3 Accordion photobooks and are one of the most exciting additions to one of many types of end-products you may ask for when deciding what to do with your images.  Accordion photobooks are perfect as gifts for parents and grandparents, as well as a nifty little accessory to keep in your purse or on your desk at work.

One order of Accordion photobooks comes with 3 identical books.  Two for you to give to family and one for you to keep, perhaps ;).

The above image shows the linen-type paper I chose to have this particular photobook printed on.  Linen paper is especially beautiful when showcasing your maternity or newborn session and offers that extra little bit of softness and delicacy to your images.

Each Accordion photobook comes protected in a white, translucent slip-case.

For this particular sample, I chose to display mom's maternity session on one side and her newborn shoot on the inside.

Please contact Kate if you would like more information on any of the product perks Novella has to offer.

Mini-Muffin Monday | Three Spice Mini-Muffins | Kitchener/Waterloo Food Photographer

Monday, February 6, 2012

I stumbled upon this recipe this past weekend and couldn't wait to create it in the kitchen this morning.  They are amazing with morning coffee and not too sweet, so it's just enough to get you out the door and feeling bright and cheery :).

Three Spice Mini-Muffins
1 1/2 c. flour (I used 1 c. flour and 1/2 c. whole wheat flour)
1/2 wh. sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp all-spice (I had to grind mine up by hand, which was a little extra work but totally worth it!)
1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 c. milk (you could also opt to use 1/2 c. plain greek yogurt)
1 egg, slightly whisked
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 c. butter, melted

1 tsp cinnamon
4 tsp br. sugar
1/4 butter, melted

1. Pre-heat oven to 400 C and grease muffin tins.
2. Mix together egg, milk, butter and vanilla.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and spices.  Slowly add to egg/milk mixture.  Continue to combine until smooth - you might want to add more milk if your batter is a little on the thick side.
4.  Pour batter into greased muffin tins and bake in oven for approximately 12 minutes, or until muffins test done.
5. For topping, mix together cinnamon and brown sugar.
5. Once out of the oven, brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon/brown sugar mixture overtop.

Saturday Travel Photo | Carcassonne, France

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Ahhh, Carcassonne... In all honesty, the only thing I took away from this place (besides some great images) was the fact that Alan Rickman was here (they shot some scenes from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves here ;).

The four of us snuck out and around the castle itself and the grasses were full of red poppies and winding, narrow pathways.

The main castle itself overlooked the smaller town of Carcassonne, which was equally beautiful.
